So far in my posts I have talked about almost every kind of bedding there is. Today I want to talk about sheets and the different types that are available out there.
Believe it or not, there are quite a few types of sheets out there to buy. I have a lot of questions about sheet sets, so here goes. Depending on how you like to sleep will determine what sheets you purchase. I personally like cotton sheets, but there are satin, silk, and so many more to chose from.
Please let me know what you like to sleep on. Some people like satin sheets, that promote a smooth sleep and then some people go for cotton high thread count sheets for comfort. Leave your comments below and let me know your choice of sheets that you sleep on.
Egyptian Cotton Sheets
When it comes to quality sheets, it’s all about the fiber that they are made from. Egyptian cotton sheets are made from fibers that are considered by many people to be the best in the world because of their length, strength, and softness.
A longer fiber simply means stronger fabric and softer fabric. They are more durable and tend to last longer between washes. This is better for you the buyer, because you can wash them as much as you want to with little wear.
Let’s discuss thread count a little. The thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical threads per square inch. A good pair of sheets should range anywhere from 200 thread count to 800 thread count, although you might occasionally see numbers over 1,000.
Which is what I personally use!
Organic Cotton Sheets
One of my favorite sheets are organic cotton sheets. They use far less water when they are grown, so it’s good for the environment.
The most important benefit of any organic material, is that their crops aren’t treated with any pesticides, insecticides, herbicides. Yet, less than 1% of all cotton grown is organic.
Organic cotton sheets and organic products are softer than regular cotton sheets. This is because of the longer fibers. This cotton is handpicked which, ensures the fibers within it doesn’t weaken or get broken, resulting in a softer, comfier, and more durable products.
When I think of satin sheets, I think sexy!
Satin fibers are a weave that usually has a glossy front and a dull back. Just like any of the luxury silk sheets, the satin sheets have a tendency to feel smooth from the moment you put them on your bed.
Many people prefer using satin sheets because they have a cool feeling in the summer and then switch to cotton in winter.
If, you are asking yourself what the difference between silk and satin sheets. Well it’s a very different feel.
Polyester blend silk and all natural silk also have a different feel against the skin. The polyester silky satin sheets are slippery with a clear distinct feeling which you can feel immediately. Natural silk sheets in contrast are a softer feeling sheet and have a more subtle reduction in friction, so less electrical shock.
King Size Bed Sheets
This is the most popular selection when it comes to sheets.
King size sheets have special measurements and need to make sure you purchase the right size. The correct dimensions of king-size sheets are 76 inches X 80 inches. This is the standard size for both the fitted sheet and the top sheet.
Not to be confused with the California king.
The measurements for the California king are 72 inches X 84 inches. If you didn’t know the difference between the two beds are small measurements, but a big deal when it comes to purchasing the right ones.
